The Art of Frank Gallimore

I've been looking at some of the sketch art of Joao Paulo Alvares Ruas and James Jean and I enjoy how they take a sketch further with a little bit of mixed media.  In this case, I grayed down some ultramarine gouache, added some touches of green and the slightest bit of red, then laid down a wash.  On top of that, I used some white gouache for highlights, added some red and blue in places for a little more color and middle tone.  Then used gray paint  to wash in the column of smoke in the background.  Maybe it's a tornado.  I haven't decided yet....

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Now that I've had a week or so with this thing up on the wall, I've decided I'll need to go back in with a pencil and put in those darks again to give it more punch.  Only when I'm sure of my values will I go in and add more color and details.
